Hair Implants for Men

For men with thinning or balding hair I think this the best method around for getting a full head of hair once again. The hair implantation procedure is great for several reasons. These really got a bum rap when the process was first being used by doctors over 50 years ago but now, with the new micro-surgical techniques that are available, the results are absolutely fantastic.  Hair implants for men are definitely the best method to get hair growing in your bald spot again.

Basically with the hair implant procedure a surgeon removes hair follicles from one area of the body and then inserts them into the bald spot. Since the hair follicle units are removed intact they will reestablish themselves when placed in the scalp and actually start to grow hair material once again. It doesn’t take long at all for the follicle to reattach to the blood supply and start getting nutrients again. After the shock of the transplant the follicle starts to produce the hair shaft material and usually within a few months you have good hair growth again.

The most spectacular thing about implants is that they actually continue to grow for years and years. For a while artificial hair implants were used but they did not look very good and they actually caused infections. With the current male hair implants the unit of hair actually belongs to the patient so there is not problem with rejection. Many men who have hair implants say it is the best thing they ever did to feel better about themselves.

There are two types of methods used and neither can really be considered the best hair implants because they are used at different times. The first, the standard method, involves actually removing a portion of the scalp that still has good hair growth. This is usually done at the back of the head for two reasons. One, the hair donor area is much less noticeable. After a little while the hair will grow back out and cover the incision scar nicely. Also the use of scar treatment lotion can greatly reduce the size and nature of the scar. Second, an interesting aspect of hair loss caused by male pattern baldness is that men tend to lose their hair on the top front and crown areas of the head. Generally the sides of the head and the posterior area are still covered with good growth. This allows for a very good donor area at the back of the head.

Once the strip of scalp is removed an assistant will extract each individual follicle from this piece and prepare them for reinsertion. The surgeon will be mapping out the placement of the hairs in order to match the direction of growth for those surrounding the bald area. When he or she is ready they will proceed to start implanting the hair root units. It is usually a cosmetic surgeon who actually does hair implants procedures. In the US they will be Medical Board certified.

The second method is known as the Follicular Unit Extraction method and involves a special medical device that can remove each individual hair follicle without having to cut out part of the scalp. The wound from this method is very slight, like a pin prick, and usually completely heals up within a few days. The insertion method is the same as the standard hair transplantation method with similar results.

The two benefits to FUE are the smaller or none existent scarring and the fact that hair can actually be removed from several areas of the body instead of just the head. It also allows for easy implantation is areas such as the face for facial hair implants and for such things as chest hair implants.

If you are going bald you owe it to yourself to look into hair implants for men as the best method for hair restoration. They are natural looking, they will continue to grow, and they are almost completely not noticeable. Check out hair implants now.
